GoDaddy's AI Bet Isn't Moving the Needle Yet: A Narrowed Forecast Signals a Tougher Fight for Small-Business Customers

GoDaddy narrowed its annual revenue forecast Thursday and largely met second-quarter estimates, with the domain registrar and web-hosting company citing slower adoption of its AI tools and weaker customer acquisition; the Tempe, Arizona-based company now expects full-year revenue of $5.215 billion to $5.255 billion, tightening a prior range of $5.195 billion to $5.275 billion. Second-quarter revenue came in at $1.298 billion, essentially in line with the $1.295 billion analysts had projected, while third-quarter guidance of $1.32 billion to $1.34 billion also matched expectations. KeyToFinancialTrends notes that narrowing a forecast range around its existing midpoint, rather than cutting guidance outright, is a specific and relatively mild signal: GoDaddy isn't telling investors the year is going worse than expected, it's telling them the range of plausible outcomes has simply become clearer, with slower AI adoption and customer acquisition softness pulling the top end of the old range down rather than collapsing the whole forecast lower.

The company's strategic response to that softness centers on a specific AI product it has spent the past year building out. GoDaddy's "Airo.ai" platform, which helps users create logos, websites, and branded marketing assets using a customer's existing business data, has expanded rapidly since launching last year, with CEO Aman Bhutani describing the effort as advancing "a company-wide AI transformation with Airo at the center, creating an agentic operating system that helps our customers accomplish more." KeyToFinancialTrends treats the gap between that ambitious "agentic operating system" framing and Thursday's acknowledgment of slower AI adoption as the real tension investors need to reconcile: GoDaddy has built genuinely sophisticated AI tooling aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, but Thursday's results suggest the company's own customer base isn't adopting or paying for that tooling as quickly as management had originally modeled.

That adoption gap matters more given the competitive pressure GoDaddy faces from a specific, well-capitalized rival pursuing an almost identical strategy. GoDaddy faces strong competition from Wix, which has aggressively expanded its own AI-powered website-building tools aimed at the same small-business customer base GoDaddy is trying to serve with Airo. Key To Financial Trends frames that direct Wix rivalry as the context that makes GoDaddy's slower customer acquisition genuinely concerning rather than simply a company-specific hiccup: when two major competitors are racing to sell essentially the same AI-powered small-business tooling to the same customer pool, weaker acquisition numbers at one company plausibly reflect share moving toward the rival rather than the entire market for AI website-building tools simply softening across the board.

The underlying business GoDaddy is trying to defend and grow through Airo remains a genuinely large and stable market even amid this quarter's softer numbers. Small and medium-sized businesses represent GoDaddy's core customer base, and the company has heavily invested in AI tools specifically to help those businesses build and automate their web presence without needing technical expertise or large marketing budgets. KeyToFinancialTrends closes on that structural market opportunity as the reason Thursday's narrowed guidance likely represents a speed bump rather than a fundamental reassessment of GoDaddy's strategy: the small-business demand for accessible, AI-assisted website tools hasn't disappeared, and GoDaddy's own numbers landing in line with expectations even amid acknowledged AI-adoption softness suggests the company is managing through a genuine competitive and adoption challenge rather than confronting a structural decline in the market it's built its entire business around serving.
