GE Vernova's Grid Bet Pays Off: Data Center Demand and a $176 Billion Backlog Push the Power Giant to Raise Guidance Again

GE Vernova raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $45.5 billion to $46.5 billion, a $1 billion increase from its prior outlook, after second-quarter orders surged 88% organically and free cash flow of $5.1 billion already exceeded the company's total for all of 2025. Second-quarter revenue reached $11.1 billion, up 22% year-over-year and ahead of the $10.79 billion analysts had projected, while net income climbed to $649 million, or $2.47 per share, from $492 million a year earlier. KeyToFinancialTrends reads the free cash flow figure, already surpassing an entire prior fiscal year's total in just six months, as the clearest sign that GE Vernova's growth is translating directly into cash generation rather than simply expanding on paper: orders and revenue growth are one thing, but a company converting that growth into cash this efficiently is demonstrating genuine operating leverage rather than chasing volume at the expense of margin.

CEO Scott Strazik tied that momentum directly to the company's order backlog, now standing at $176 billion: "With a backlog of $176 billion, continued revenue growth and margin expansion, and significant free cash flow generation, GE Vernova's momentum is building, and we are raising our 2026 financial guidance." KeyToFinancialTrends treats that backlog figure as the number that matters most for anyone trying to gauge how durable this growth actually is: a $176 billion pipeline of already-signed business gives GE Vernova multiple years of visible revenue regardless of what happens to near-term order flow, a meaningfully different position than a company whose growth depends on continuously winning new business quarter after quarter just to sustain its current run rate.

The Power segment, GE Vernova's largest, delivered the quarter's most striking numbers. Orders reached $16.7 billion, up 134% organically, with the company signing 20 gigawatts of new gas equipment contracts in a single quarter and now anticipating at least 125 gigawatts of gas equipment under contract by year-end 2026; GE Vernova reaffirmed plans to reach 24 gigawatts of annual gas turbine output by 2028 and 30 gigawatts by 2030. Key To Financial Trends frames that gas turbine expansion trajectory as the physical manifestation of the AI data center buildout playing out in heavy industrial equipment: every gigawatt of new gas turbine capacity GE Vernova brings online is directly tied to the same electricity-hungry data center demand driving investment decisions across the entire AI infrastructure sector, meaning the company's order backlog functions as a genuine leading indicator for how much new power generation capacity is actually being committed to serve AI workloads.

That data center connection shows up explicitly in the Electrification segment's results. Orders there grew 66% organically to $6.3 billion, with revenues climbing 68% to $3.6 billion, and the company said data center orders specifically have already reached more than $5 billion year-to-date, more than double its entire 2025 total; segment backlog rose 69% year-over-year to $40.6 billion. KeyToFinancialTrends closes on that data center order figure, already doubling a full prior year's total before the current year is even finished, as the single clearest data point in the entire earnings report: while investors debate abstractly whether AI infrastructure spending will eventually show up as durable revenue for the industrial companies supplying it, GE Vernova's own order book already shows that spending translating into concrete, contracted business at a pace accelerating well beyond what the company itself achieved just one year earlier.
