Israeli airline Israir (TASE: ISRG) has received a permit from the US Federal Aviation Authority to operate scheduled commercial flights to the US. This is the final regulatory approval that the airline required in order to start flying the route. The company says that ticket sales will begin very shortly. It was reported last week that the first flights would take place on October 19, but since the FAA’s approval was received earlier than expected, it could be that flights will commence sooner.

"The approval represents international confidence on the part of the FAA in the company’s quality, safety, and operational reliability," Israir said. "We are excited to expand our destinations map to North America, to boost competition in the market, and to provide our customers with quality service at competitive prices."

Along with the advent of Israir, US airlines United and Delta are due to resume flying to Israel next month, joining El Al and Arkia. The offering of flights to the US will thus double or more. American Airlines recently announced that it was postponing its return to Israel to March next year.
